Obituary of Marie Jean Centrone

Marie Jean Centrone, 93, of Wayne, formerly of Pompton Plains, died Friday, September 27, 2019.

Marie was the third of four children born to Salvatore and Josephine LaGala. Raised in Passaic, she was a graduate of Passaic High School.

Marie met her husband, Oranzo "Ron" Centrone, at the Palisades Amusement Park in Palisades, NJ. The couple married on November 23, 1950, and welcomed their first child, Robert, on their first anniversary. A daughter, Karen, would follow a few years later.

The family settled into their home in East Rutherford, and in addition to her responsibilities as a mother, Marie worked hard as an office supervisor for New Jersey Bank, and later, PNC Bank.

Retiring in 1990, Marie and Ron enjoyed their retirement, especially taking vacations on cruises. The births of their granddaughters, Mackenzie and Kelsey, filled much of their time, and Marie was guilty of being completely and totally devoted to her grandchildren.

Following Ron's death in 1994, She maintained her residence in East Rutherford until moving to Pompton Plains in 2003 to be closer to her family. When she could, she would escape to Atlantic City, where she loved to play the slots. A strong-willed, bossy woman, Marie will most of all be remembered for her undying commitment to her family.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Robert Centrone and his wife Theresa, and Karen DiMaria and her husband Charles; her grandchildren, Mackenzie DiMaria, and Kelsey Marie DiMaria and her fiancĂ©, Nicholas Zachowsky; and her great-grandchildren, Bailey Scott and Charlee Scott. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron, and her siblings, Frank LaGala, Nancy Wehrman, and Rudy LaGala.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 10 am - 12 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 12 pm, also at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.
