Obituary of Josephine Carol Scrudato

Josephine Scrudato, 94, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Born in Newark, Josephine was raised there. Like many other young couples of her generation, Josephine was introduced by a friend to Alfonso Scrudato, a soldier returning home from serving in World War II. In 1949, they married, and together settled in Pompton Plains, raising three sons.

A stay-at-home mother and homemaker, Josephine took great pride in caring for her family and her home. She worked tirelessly to keep her house clean and tidy, and always provided her family with the most delicious meals. Josephine loved to beautify the house with her talent in the garden, and was always a mother her kids knew they could count on to be there for them when they needed her.

Josephine and Al, married for more than 70 years before his passing earlier this year, enjoyed their time together. Vacations to the Jersey Shore, California, and especially Italy were times that were especially cherished. Their dedication to each other and to their family provided a steadfast of love and support for their sons, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Robert Scrudato and his wife Ann, and Ronald Scrudato and his wife Christine; her grandchildren, Jill and Shaun, Jáclyn and Vince, Lauren and Jay, Michael and Blair, James and Elicia; and her great-grandchildren, Owen, Molly, Emelia and Parker. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfonso Scrudato, and her son, Thomas Scrudato, as well as 6 siblings.

Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-6 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Monday at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church. Burial will follow at theNorthern NJ Veteran's Cemetery in Sparta.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Stillwater Area Volunteer Fire Co. would be greatly appreciated by her family.
