Obituary of Charles D. Stewart
Charles D. Stewart, 87, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, passed away on January 9, 2020.
Born in Jersey City, Charles was the only son of the late Charles and Anna (Dragna) Stewart. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and graduated from Fordham University with a bachelor's degree in marketing. He had a long career in medical sales, retiring as national sales manager for Bayer.
Charles married Judith Leahy in 1955 and the couple settled in Pompton Plains to raise their six children. A proud family man, Charles attended all of his children's sporting events and dance recitals. He could always be found in the stands of PTHS cheering the athletes on, even long after his children and grandchildren graduated. He was a talented musician and singer who excelled at playing the saxophone and he was happy to have passed that talent down to several of his children and grandchildren. Charles and Judith lived in Pompton Plains for over 40 years before moving to The Oaks at Denville 8 years ago.
Above all else, Charles was proud to have served his church, his family, and his country.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Judith; his children, Janet Toomey, Linda Murray and her husband Glenn, Kathy Jennings and her husband Rick, Sue Akin and her husband John, Chuck Stewart and his wife Wendy, and Bob Stewart and his wife Christine; his grandchildren, Michael Toomey and his fiance Cristina, Stephanie Toomey, Ryann Holmes and her husband Kevin, Breena Murray, Kyle Murray, Michael Gogel and his wife Nicole, Doug Jennings and his fiance Alexa, Rob Jennings and his fiance Kim, Danielle Akin, Charlie Stewart, Luke Stewart and his wife Tia Rose, Marc Stewart, Lindsay Stewart and her fiance Colin, Jennifer Stewart, and Bobby Stewart; and his great grandchildren, Julia and Charlie Gogel and Adalyn Holmes.
