Obituary of Heather Nicole Bates
Heather Nicole Bates, 27, of Wanaque, formerly of Pompton Plains, died Sunday, February 9, 2020.
Born in Pompton Plains, Heather was the daughter of John Bates and Michele Bruno. Graduating from Pequannock High School, she started her career as a Veterinary Technician, and later earned her degree in Nursing from the County College of Morris. She was a dedicated and passionate nurse, and focused her career in caring for terminally ill children.
The light of Heather's life was her son, Jackson. He filled her heart with joy, and there was nothing she would not do for him. She was a great mom, and he was blessed with her same infectious smile.
Heather had a huge heart. She was gentle and caring to all. She even nursed a baby squirrel she found back to health with patience and care. Heather had the greatest laugh, and was adored by her family and many friends.
Heather is lovingly survived by her son, Jackson Traynor-Bates; her fiance, John Traynor; her father, John Bates and his fiance Danielle; her mother, Michele Bruno and her fiance Mike Afflitto; her brothers, Kyle Bruno and his fiance Kiara Benitez, and Shane Bates and his girlfriend Isha Bailey; her sister, Brittany Bates and her boyfriend Matt Masterson; her grandparents, Harold and Millie Bates and Harry and Ruth Bruno; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-8 pm at Holy Spirit RC Church, Pequannock. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Saturday, also at the church. The M. John Scanlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.scanlanfuneral.com
In lieu of flowers donations to the Humane Society in Heather's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
