Obituary of Eddie Finley
Thomas Eddie Finley, 76, of Pompton Lakes, passed away on May 20, 2020.
Born in Tulsa, OK, Eddie grew up in Enid, OK and graduated from Enid High School in 1961. He was awarded the National Merit Scholarship for high academic achievement, and earned his BS in electrical engineering from The University of Oklahoma in 1966. His career in electrical engineering began soon after graduation and he accepted a position at ITT Aerospace in Clifton, NJ in 1973. He worked for the company for 35 years before retiring, and working with NASA to develop an instrument for a weather satellite was the highlight of his career. Eddie continued his education in NJ, earning a Master of Business Administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Computer Science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Eddie was a huge sports fan and especially loved the University of Oklahoma’s football team – The Oklahoma Sooners. He looked forward to watching the team play every Saturday in the fall, and also followed the Army Black Knights and the New York Yankees. He was an active little league coach, faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, and an amateur pilot. He loved vacationing on Long Beach Island and sharing silly stories and jokes with everyone he met. Eddie was kind, loving, intelligent and determined, and he courageously fought his battle with Parkinson’s Disease right up to the end. He will be deeply missed.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kathleen (McSweeney) Finley; his beloved children, Brett Finley and his wife Carolyn, Chris Sessa and his wife Natalie, Brian Finley, Laura Byrnes and her husband Brendan, and Colleen Bonanni and her husband Anthony; and his 10 adored grandchildren, Tommy Finley, Ian and Bella Gayle, Abby Finley, Dylan, Ryan and Brooke Sessa, Charlie and Jack Byrnes, and AJ Bonanni.
