Obituary of John Tachon

John Joseph Tachon (a.k.a John Joseph Wokurka), 86, passed away on May 20, 2020.

John was born in New York City on January 26,1934. He was a long time resident of Pequannock Township. On November 12, 1955, John married the love of his life, Patricia Carr. They were married almost 45 years when Pat passed away on August 17, 2000.

John was the devoted father of Catherine Bassil and her husband Raymond, and John Francis Tachon and his wife Susan. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Matthew (and his wife Deanne) and Emily Bassil; Amanda, Ashley, Alyssa, and John Patrick Tachon. He was also the great-grandfather of Branden Bassil.

John was enormously proud of his four years of service in the United States Navy, serving from 1951-1955. He served on the USS Mississippi during the Korean War. A printer by trade, in 1971 John started a printing company, National Paper and Envelope Corporation and was president/owner until he was sidelined by a stroke in 1995.

John's hobbies included carpentry and woodworking. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan and enjoyed dancing with his friend Shirley. In addition to his beloved family, he cherished his homes on Lake Teedyuskung in Pennsylvania. He spent the past 63 summers at "The Lake" and it has provided his family and friends with truly wonderful memories.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services are private. He will be buried at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta.
