Obituary of Paul J. De Sena

Paul J. De Sena, 89, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died at home Monday, August 17, 2020 in the care of his loving family.

 

Born in Sayville, New York, Paul was the son of Joseph and Marguerite De Sena. The family moved to Brooklyn when Paul was 15 years old, and he graduated from the NY School of Printing, where he served as Vice President and President of the School.

 

After graduating, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served during the Korean War. He married Jean Costa in 1954 and lived in Brooklyn until 1963, when they moved to Pompton Plains, New Jersey. 

 

In Pompton Plains, he became an active parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where he served as President of the Council of Men. He was also a member of the Library Board, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of American Legion Post 242. 

 

Paul had a long career with Verizon in New Jersey, retiring from the company after 35 years.

 

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; his daughters, Clare Freedman and her husband Steve, Marianne Albano and her husband Lou, and Margie Roslasky and her husband Ron; his sister, Peggy Evans; his grandchildren, Lou Albano, James Albano and his wife Jackie, Robert Albano and his wife Kassie, Michelle Weaver and her husband Kenny, Samantha Freedman, Paul Freedman and his wife Nicole, Caitlin Villa and her husband Chris, Ed Roslasky and Phill Roslasky; as well as his great-grandchildren, Caroline Albano, Nicholas Albano, Vincent Albano and Camilla Weaver. 

 

A funeral Mass will be held 12:30 pm Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. Interment of ashes will follow at the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Eva's Village in Paterson, where Paul and Jean volunteered their time for years, would be greatly appreciated by his family.
